Claire Tomalin

Claire Tomalin was born in London in 1933 of a French father and an English mother, and was educated at Newnham College, Cambridge. She has worked in publishing and journalism all her life, becoming literary editor first of the New Statesman and then of the Sunday Times. Her biographies of the likes of Mary Wollsteoncraft, Katherine Mansfield and Samuel Pepys have won Whitbread Awards and been shortlisted for the British Book Awards, among others. She is married to playwright and novelist Michael Frayn.
