Jane Jackson was born in Goole, Yorkshire, but moved to Cornwall when she was two. She left school at sixteen, working as a sales assistant, an insurance clerk, a police cadet and a library assistant. After a failed marriage, she found herself, aged twenty-five, a single mother of two, unable to work. She took correspondence courses in writing for radio, TV and journalism before realising her passion for historical fiction. She is now happily married with three children, three grandchildren and the best job in the world.
